Everyone knows that good keyword research is one of the keys to getting people to go to your website. When they type in certain search keywords or keyword phrases, you want them to find you!

Keyword research is the process of choosing keywords and phrases that your potential clients will be using to look for you via the search engines. Your clients are constantly searching for information on Google, Yahoo!, and the other search engines, and they're hungry to find your solutions to their problems. Because of this, it's really important that before you get into blogging, SEO, PPC, or article marketing that you have a great idea of what your "core keywords" are going to be for your particular situation.

Here's a few ways to think up the perfect "core keywords":

1. Keep them relevant to your industry or niche.

This might seem like a no-brainer, but if you want to get people to go to your website, you'll need to choose keywords that are extremely relevant to your product or service. Who is your target market? What are their demographics? What are their budgets looking like? Is there a problem that they have?

2. Choose keywords that are searched often.

If your keyword is "extraterrestrial space robots who eat purple monkeys", then chances are pretty darn good that you're not going to have many people find your website on the search engines. There just are not enough people searching for those keywords. Use Google's Keywords Tool to track your ideas.

3. Choose keywords that will have the lowest levels of competition.

Using the Google Keywords Tool, search for keywords and keyword phrases that have the lowest levels of competition. This will give you a decent chance at getting into the good results quickly.
