Many internet marketers always find themselves on the loosing even after investing thousands of dollars in coming up with a flashy and appealing website. The main reason for this is because they tend to forget some of the fundamentals that make a website rank high.

One of the commonest mistakes is the use of META Tags throughout in what is commonly known as META description and keyword tags on each page. What can instead help in ranking the website highly and one that is used by many successful sites is the Description tag. The other mistake is poorly named Title Tags as a result of it being viewed as an after thought by many web designers. A relevant message should be included on the Title tag as a strategy for optimizing an important and popular search phrase.

Many websites lack relevant text and to an extent that a search engine cannot find a match of the keyword and the text on the website. Many run the risk of putting a higher priority on those keywords placed higher on the page. One should ensure that a theme is attached to each page so that the title tag is optimized and also for the reinforcement of the content. The lack of META tags on a website is almost suicidal and yet it's a mistake that many websites make. This reduces the rankings of the website on many search engines, which might end up hurting the image of the website.

The other common mistake is the lack of Text Links on Home Page. These are very important because they take visitors to the various pages of the website on the homepage so that they can sample what is being offered and be in a position to become clients or customers and also make recommendations to other people.
