I've been kicking around the internet pretty much since I could. I believe I was one of the first Macs in the BC Interior to get online.

I started in the world of traditional marketing, starting as a radio copywriter. I worked at a few stations in Western Canada and eventually ended up in Kelowna, B.C. If you've never been to Kelowna, put it on your travel agenda sometime. It truly is a spectacular place. As much fun as writing radio ads was, you don't make much money as a local copywriter, so I started my own advertising agency. That gradually morphed into an interactive agency and quickly became a search engine optimization (in the days before paid search) firm, first called Searchengineposition and now called Enquiro. I've been working with search since 1996.

I have a wonderful wife and two very cool daughters. We travel a lot, I read a lot, and I try to keep writing whenever I can. In addition to this blog (which regular readers will tell you goes in spits and spurts) I write every Thursday for SearchInsider on MediaPost and every second Friday for Search Engine Land. I write the Just Behave Column.

I suppose I know a lot about how people interact with search results. It's an area of fascination for me and my company, Enquiro, has done a lot of research in the area. I've been called a search guru, and while I take it as a compliment, it implies I'm a teacher. I'm really more of a student. In fact, I love to learn as much as possible about how we interact online. I believe the internet is the most powerful change agent in history, and I'm thrilled to be on the sidelines (and maybe influencing it just the tiniest bit) watching it all.

I'm currently working on a book, traveling around the country and speaking, putting in my volunteer time as the Chair of SEMPO and as a director on the board of my local Chamber of Commerce, and keeping Enquiro going. It's a full life, but I love every minute of it.

I love feedback, and if I'm on top of things, I try to moderate a few times a week. I apologize for the awkward spam control, but what can I say, dickheads run the Internet for everyone!
