People, in general, are social (or soshal, depending on how you spell it).  We like to interact with others, especially those who have shared interests.  Whether in person, on the internet, or both, human connections make us feel whole.

Web 2.0 and the social internet explosion of recent years have touched on this aspect of human nature.  We can interact with friends, sharing information about ourselves and the things we enjoy through posts, photos, and videos on social networking sites like MySpace or Facebook.

For those of us who like to share stories, videos, and pictures with the masses, social media sites like Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon offer ways to put the content that we feel is good in front of other people.

Even social bookmarking sites, originally intended as an easy way to save web pages and collaborate, have become arenas of interaction.  Simpy and del.icio.us have made sharing favorites a cool thing.

Then, there are blogs.  Millions of them.  Rants and opinions, journals and news — blogs have entered the mainstream in ways that surpass traditional media as a form of getting news by their sheer bulk of presence.

YouTube and Flickr have become phenomenons in their own right.  We put our videos and pictures in front of the world for scrutiny and adoration.

New ways of socializing are popping up daily.  Sites like Pownce and Twitter make it possible to interact with friends in real time and in bulk.

And those, my friends, are just scratching the surface.  Just when we start to think there couldn’t be anything else that would enhance our social internet experience, something new makes waves.  Many are just fads, but some have staying power that can last years — an eternity on the internet.

Soshable will try to keep up.  We want our readers to have access to more than just news and announcements.  We want opinions, and not just ours.  By tapping into the minds and resources of some of the brightest stars and most knowledgeable people in the business, we want to present the social internet on a golden platter for everyone to enjoy.
