Posted by: Feb 05, 2010

Research Summary

Chinese internet portal Sohu saw total revenues climb by 12 per cent year-on-year during the fourth quarter of 2009 to top $135.8 million (£85.2 million), the company has announced. ...

Description:

The results from the group, which Search Engine Land described as "China's Yahoo!", show the growing power of online marketing services in the country, with brand advertising revenues climbing by two per cent from Q4 2008 to $45.9 million.

Over the 2009 fiscal year, Sohu posted record total revenues of $515.2 million - up 20 per cent on 2008.

Turnover from brand advertising was $177.1 million - another record and five per cent higher than the previous financial year.

However, Search Engine Land noted the results left Wall Street underwhelmed, partly because Sohu had previously posted large increases in overall profits and partly because investors are becoming increasingly "skittish" about Chinese internet firms amid continue uncertain over the future of Google in the country after a recent cyber attack on its Gmail service.
