SEO Competition Sample Questions

Below are questions that can be used to determine your firm’s SEO competency. The questions are divided by phases and are strictly a sampling.

All Phases – Customer Satisfaction (Questions asked to the customers of an entrant)

  1.  Overall, how satisfied are you with the service you received?
  2.  What degree of confidence did you have in the knowledge/professionalism of the staff member(s) who provided the service?
  3.  How courteous, attentive, prompt, and caring was/were the staff member(s) who provided the service?
  4.  Should the need arise, would you use this/these service(s) again?
  5.  How could staff have served you better?

Phase 1 – Depth of Knowledge

  1. Have you modified the way you achieve higher rankings for your clients based on the Universal Search model introduced by Google?  How?
  2. What are the three most critical components to achieving strong rankings in your mind and why?
  3. What are the most competitive keywords you have been able to rank on the major search engines and how long did it take you to achieve those rankings? 

Phase 2 – Reporting Methods

  1. Do the organic optimization reports strictly cover traffic metrics or do they cover conversion statistics too?
  2. Do the reports inform clients what the next set of steps ought to be to achieve higher rankings and when the Client can expect to achieve the next set of goals by?
  3. How comprehensive, specific, and useful are the reports that are offered to the client?  What metrics do they cover?

Phase 3 – Internal Principles

  1. Rankings of entrant’s website on search engines-  Google, MSN, Yahoo, Alexa
  2. Use and verification of various techniques used by the entrant (press releases, blogs, etc.)
  3. Employee training and development efforts such as achievements of various certification programs.

Phase 4 – Competitive Advantages

  1. Has the entrant won awards / recognized for achievements that gives the entrant a competitive advantage?
  2. Does the entrant have any patents or trademarks?
  3. Does the entrant have any proprietary processes that would give the entrant a unique edge?
