Dealing with the agents was great until the checking in portion of it. We arrived about two hours earlier which was fine being that we were traveling from NY. We arrived at the Carolina shores rentals office to see if we would be able to check in, but the agent said the house was not ready yet due to cleaning. So we decided to drive by the house out of curiosity. We arrived and their were no activities going on at the house. So we drive back to the check in place and waited until it was close to our check in time was was 4pm. We arrived at the house. The house was not cleaned at all. The tubs were dirty. The floors were sandy and the comforters on each bed in each room had a foul odor. So being a mom of small children and having my niece and nephew with me, I decided to clean the entire house and wash all of the comforters. I did not think to take any pictures because I was so focused on having the house clean and having clean comforters so my children would be comfortable since we would be staying their for eight days. The next morning I contacted the rental office and asked to speak with the cleaning department. Amanda the director for the cleaning crew said she can only have someone come to straighten up but no deep cleaning. I declined the offer being that I was already doing the straightening up already. Two days in, the vacuum stopped working because the bag was overfilled. You would think the cleaning crew would know to replace the bag when it is full. We stayed at house 219N calm ocean. We left ajax their for the next family who will be staying in that house. You will most likely need it. Please hire better cleaning people. If not please properly train them to deep clean a house. I would not recommend this company moving forward. Its a shame because I do not believe in leaving bad reviews but I do believe in speaking the truth. The house was a nice house.

I've been coming to OBX for years, since I was a child, and my most recent home was horrendous. The home I rented from Carolina Shores was despicable. I don't know where to start. The home was a complete fire hazard. The electricity would flicker throughout the entire main floor if we unplugged a fan in the master bedroom. The two front stove top burners didn't work, and if they did, they would turn on magically. The oven turned off sporadically if the stove top with running simultaneously. The master bedroom toilet was clogged with vacuum cleaner debris (most likely from the cleaning people). The staircase banister had no child-proofing. A child could have fell to their death, which kept all parents on guard 24/7 (so much for relaxing), or we compromised and had children sleep downstairs to avoid the stairs. The home vacuum sounded like it was going to blow up when we turned it on, so we just avoided the machine at all cost. Every turn, this place was a disaster. The entire house was hot as hell, given the fact that there was no insulation in the home, every room had an AC unit running, and the AC in the home was on. The outside porch had huge nails sticking out of the planks causing either a tripping hazard, or a bloody foot. All in all, the beach was our saving grace (like always with OBX), but the home rented was pathetic given the price we paid, and I will never rent from this property management company again. It was quite evident that they have no clue what is going on in their homes, and they just churn and burn the cash and do nothing to maintain the home or even keep it safe. One star for providing a roof over our heads, and that's about it.

We have been coming to the OBX for 20 years and have used many of rental companies during that time, including several of the “bigs”. This was our first time with Carolina Shores and I can honestly say it has been a super experience. We have had no issues and certainly nothing like some of the other reviewers have commented on. The rental process was easy, check-in seamless and the house very clean. Everything was as the website described. I would definitely rent through Carolina Shores again and have in fact pre-reserved the same property again for next year. .

Not deserving of even one star but no option available for a zero-star rating. Worse than poor communicators. Don't live up to their word. Charge exorbitant prices for goods and so-called services then don't deliver them. John Mignona (president) refuses to answer emails sent and phone calls placed in attempt to resolve issues. I strongly recommend finding different agent. If you choose this company as either a landlord or a tenant, choose a good attorney first.
