Michaan's sale in October 2018 was my first auction eand a real learning experience. We offered ancient Asian items I inherited 35 years earlier that had come into my family over 70 years ago. The only thing that seemed strange was that one item sold for 50 times the Michaan estimate. Of course I was delighted. Because of that I now realize that selling at auction can be like gambling. If you are lucky enough for your sale to have more than one buyer who knows the value of an item you may come out a winner, but clearly both seller and buyer should go into an auction with some knowledge of the market.
