Action training has helped our small department fill some of our training needs. The videos are produced well. I would like to see then incorporate drills for our members to practice as part of the video series.

As a Training Chief of a combination fire department, there has been a long standing issue of getting quality training into the hands of our busy members. Action Training Systems has made training easy to administer and even easier for our members to get the training they need. The online platform allows our members to learn at their pace and at a time that makes it convenient for them. Perhaps best of all, it allows more time spent on learning the hands-on skills needed to be a proficient responder. I highly recommend ATS to any department that is struggling with busy people who want the training, but may not have large blocks of time to sit in a classroom.

While the price is good and the enrollment process is easy, the software used to deliver the training appears to be home-built, old, buggy, and with extremely limited functionality. For example, there's no apparent way to pause a lesson or to go back a few seconds. And while you usually get to review the material when you answer a question wrong on a quiz (a good feature), there's no feedback when you take a section exam: answer a question incorrectly and in a flash the question and answers are replaced by the next question. This means you'll never know what the right answer was and in that event the training has failed. I've written and used learning management systems for 30 years and have never come across one where you're left hanging. For public safety education, this is a very serious failing.Other issues: a key signup link on the content website is broken, there are periodic application lockups (using Chrome and Windows 10 Professional on a new ThinkPad), and the web site notes "there is no timeline" to fix problems that cause courses to work incorrectly on Apple iOS 12.2. Also, I've come across at least one of the "pick the best"-type question where the course content and question make no sense (motor function in an unresponsive patient? Huh?).My average after five courses is 95.8 (thank you NOLS) so I'm not blaming bad scores on somebody else. I develop enterprise business software for a living, cherish usability, and have no agenda other than providing feedback on a product that looked great but has turned out to be much less than I expected.
