I was contacted to do background work and stand in later for a production and was told to come in soon and do a fitting first. Called, emailed to find out what time to come (because it is in Austin), and did not receive a response until days later - so I guess it wasnt really a rush. After I received all the location details of where to do the fitting, a day or two before I was supposed to arrive their casting company emailed me again to say "never mind we overbooked." 😑 Very unprofessional and unorganized, and I am shocked that they did not even have the staff or support to have someone answer phones.

I worked as an extra on MACHETE KILLS. It was a pretty cool experience. Long work day, tons of waiting. I got paid $100 for mostly sitting on set for about 7-8 hours and actually shooting for 2-3 hrs. I learned that working on a movie set is gritty stuff, and that unless you're a big star with a trailer, it's not that glamorous at all - it's work. Really cool to see the whole process up close though. The scene we shot was a flashback sequence that was ultimately cut down to about 1 second of screen time in the actual movie. The whole thing was all about hurry up and wait. 'Do this', 'go there', 'stand here', 'look like this' when directed to do so by a producer. It's all very organized and precise per the shooting schedule.You might feel a little like cattle working as an extra -- sitting around in dark, dingy areas waiting to be told what to do, but that's how the process goes. Not everyone will be cut out for it, and it's not something I'd probably want to do more than once in a while, but as someone who enjoys movies, it was definitely cool.
