Client Review on Costas - Pen Guy Art

I needed a basic four-page website to sell a book, one item. The cover had already been designed by a well-known book designer. I thought it was fine, but Costas offered to show me another idea, and it was a dramatic improvement, so I went with it. I agree with most of the comments here extolling his imagination, creativity, sense of humor, various aspects of his personality, etc. However, I had engaged him for a simple website. I still do not have a website, after more than twenty months. He would not read my book because he “doesn’t like to read.” I suggested that he should read the introduction (eight pages) and browse through at least part of the first chapter (a forty-six page timeline of events over a five year period.) After three requests, he still had not read that material. I don’t know how one can design a public face, a commercial identity, for a product with which he is not even superficially familiar. I stuck with it, trying to make it work with phone calls. The work that came to my computer piecemeal was pockmarked with spelling and grammar errors. His unapologetic response: “Yeah, I suck at spelling.” I asked how much longer it would take, this after many months. He said he works first on the projects he likes, and he doesn’t like working on my project because I “have a negative outlook on life.” I had always been friendly, cooperative, helpful, honest, and patient. I did not know I had unwittingly engaged the services of an amateur psychologist. It’s too bad, because he can be a nice guy, and he does have a family to support, but I am now fumbling around on my own with GoDaddy, poorer by the $2,350 I paid Costas. I am stupidly shy, so I am too embarrassed to talk to him, much less to try to get some of my money back. I know that is all on me. I wish I didn't have to write this review. Sometimes you’re the statue, and sometimes you’re the pigeon. I was the statue.
