Feedback:

Not so long ago I attended Dog-N-Suds Grooming School. Unfortunately, my studyings lasted just for a day. I was quite confused when I was only briefly shown how to clip dog’s nails and was given two Bichon dogs right after that. I have two dogs myself, but I knew nothing about the proper way of bathing, blade sizes, how to hold clippers, etc. It was stated in application that there would be 4 hours of theory, 4 hours of observation, and 8 hours of classroom instruction, so I was sure I’ll have some knowledge before practice. No surprise I was a nervous wreck when instructor quickly moved ahead to brushing and clipping the dogs, using different blades(at that time I had no idea which of them are used for what) and I had to repeat it on Bichon dog. What is more, I haven’t been told about razor burn, slicker burn, or clipper burn. I was struggling and doing my best not to harm the dog. After that we were quickly demonstrated how to give a bath, although I wasn’t sure whether I used enough soap or washed the face correctly, as we weren’t told about it. The instructor then demonstrated a how to give a bath very quickly. I then gave my Bichon a bath, not exactly sure what I was doing--was I using enough soap, was I washing the face correctly. The instructor was hard to reach because she was across the school (some 50 feet across the school ("house")) helping the other students. She checked on me once or twice, even though it was my first grooming. The class was interrupted due to instructor’s friend who came by to bathe his dog. After that I was given larger dog, so needless to say without any guidance I had even more problems with bathing and drying. It wasn’t my best experience, not to mention lack of clean towels(I had to use the wet ones from the floor) and tenant upstairs of the school house. I am worried about student who are not instructed in classroom properly even on their first day. I contacted another dog grooming school in Medina where I was able to enroll. It was a completely different experience, as each week started with full day of in-class instructions, the rest of the week we were given hands-on guidance. The instructor was always available for questions and always made sure whether I perform properly and there were no other people living in the school. I am grateful for the other instructor!I hold no grudge against Phyllis. I just want to share my experience was at Dog-N-Suds, as I want to let people know how it was from my point.

I have been trying to call dog n suds dog grooming school for the past two weeks, nobody answers the phone! I am not the type of person to leave a voicemail so instead I texted the number. I have yet to get a response. You would think that with the title of "school", someone would pick up the phone and answer my calls. So I decided to pay a visit to the "school". I wasn't sure where it was, but I eventually saw this old house. I then went to a business in the area and asked them where dog n suds was. They told me that the old house that I saw was indeed the "school". So I went back, and knocked on the door, nobody answered. It looked like a rented house, most definitely not a school. I waited for a half hour thinking someone would eventually Answer the door. But no, I ended up leaving without any of my questions answered. I am very disappointed in this so called school. The fact that I have been trying for two weeks to get in contact with anyone there makes me upset. I don't think that this place is the right school for me on account of there is absolutely nobody there. Maybe they should start answering their phone and they would have gotten my business. Lucky for me I found another dog grooming school in the area. Thank goodness they actually value my business and gladly welcomed me into their school! So if you are wondering why this place has a bad review, it's simple: NOBODY ANSWERS THE PHONE OR DOOR!!!!!!

Feedback:

I attended Dog N Suds grooming school with Phyllis almost four years ago now. I originally signed up with "The Other School" where I was kicked out for being "difficult". Though if respectfully questioning why I HAD to purchase their set of scissors, not wanting to take my flat purity ring band off, and some other basic questions about the school was being "difficult", I'm glad it didnt work out. (I've been grooming for several years now with the band on with ZERO problems by the way)So instead, I went to Phyllis, who took me the day I was kicked out from Diamond, (did I mention that they kicked me out while I was literally on my way for my first day of class?)Phyllis then went right into explaining how the course was to work, she gave us all a smock, grooming book, and a folder that included all the information we would need for the class as well as good info for grooming in general. Yes, Phyllis is a VERY hands on person. I'm a very hands on learner, all the lecturing in the world will not prepare you for the world of dog grooming. Had the other reviewer stayed more than a single day, they WOULD have learned everything they had ever wanted to about grooming. It's not something you learn in a day folks, grooming is like a complicated form of dance or art... it's not a job for everyone. I came with ZERO knowledge of professional dog grooming, and left able to groom any dog start to finish on my own SAFELY. The thing you'll first notice as one of her students, is the fact that yes, you DO get hands on experience right off the bat... but dog safety is her NUMBER ONE concern. No way is Phyllis going to let you injure any of the dogs in ANY way. Yet she's also not the type to hover, which was great for me, I tend to stress when people hover while I'm trying to learn something. She would show you however many times she needed to until you were ready to try, then have you try... but she NEVER takes her eyes off you, even if you think she has. How do I know? Because I watched her with the other students (she never has more than 3, which makes for some great one on one learning). She never forces you to do anything she doesnt feel you're ready for, and she never made me feel uncomfortable. After I graduated, I had a job literally the NEXT day. Yes, I still had questions from time to time, but I was ALWAYS able to call her and ask. Phyllis always took my calls, answered any questions, and even found me certain breeds I could come back and groom that she would help me with. To say she goes above and beyond is an understatement. Now that I've groomed for a few years and have seen groomers from other schools, academies, and colleges, I can STILL say I am so glad I went with Phyllis at Dog N Suds. If you have any questions or doubts, I'd love to fill in anything I may have missed.

Feedback:

The 'other school' the last review talks about is very inaccurate. Phylis attended the 'other school' and then opened a school within 10 miles. I am attending the 'other school' and am not required to buy scissors or anything else. There are plenty of state of the art tools, tables, and tubs that everyone is allowed to use and gain a better idea of what tools we prefer. The teacher has REALLY been grooming for 40 years and is a caring and generous woman. At this time there is a student enrolled with me who attended Dog-N-Suds for one day and left to go to the 'other school' due to the situation at Dog-N-Suds. I have not been to Dog-N-Suds and wanted to comment on the untrue statements of the 'other school' made by the other review.
