Client Review on Gorge Networks

Feedback:

My history with this company is extensive starting approximately around 2006. I was going to college for computer hardware engineering and electrical engineering starting around that time, plus living with my grandparents in Hood River during breaks. It was around the time when these dishonest crooks were pushing "wireless internet" heavily in the area. They fooled so many people into thinking it was such a great service and my grandparents + their close friends ended up buying into the overpriced hype. Basically these scam artists advertised speeds upwards of 5/6mbit at the time (substantially less than any of the competitors). What they didn't tell anyone was that wireless technology always has and always will have substantial latency + is prone to significant interference. Anything can cause interference like snow, solar flares, heavy cloud cover, fog, smoke, a microwave, radio transmissions, etc., you get the idea. Basically, I never saw speeds above 1.5mit and everytime it snowed, it slowed down to below dial up speeds. Every time I called in to complain, they always treated me like an idiot despite my years of experience in the industry and being in college to design the systems the "technical assistance" department only vaguely knew about. Eventually, I got my grandparents + everyone I could to dump gorge net and use other providers that gave 10x the bandwidth at 1/3 the cost with 1/100th the latency. I'm not exaggerating on those figures, please remember that I'm a computer hardware engineer now. At a certain point right before I graduated a few years later, I thought maybe I should apply for the position they had at the time since I would have my computer hardware engineering degree + electrical engineering degree and maybe I could bring order to chaos. Since I never used my real name when harassing them about their trash service years prior, I figured I'd have a 99% chance of getting the job and working my way up the management latter. I called regularly and politely, but not excessively about my resume and to speak with someone about what I could offer. The guy that always answered always lied to me because (I assume) he was threatened by me. I was ignored or lied to over and over for about 6 months. I eventually went to go see the manager directly and was turned away the first time, and asked a couple of non-specific questions the second time. After that I abandoned the idea altogether and landed a job at Microsoft, then Amazon, then Google. After gaining valuable experience I now own my own company, but think of how I could have helped these people get their act together. I don't know if any of the same people are working there, but judging by the reviews I'd say so.One last story that's "in the now": I still have one relative that uses this company, and is being taken advantage of. Her internet speed is 1.5mbit down / 128kb up. It's literally faster for her to drive to my house 6h away to upload 20gb of data to the photo lab using my 550mib / 120mbit fiber connection, and drive back home. Guess what, she's being charged the same amount as others that are using the bronze internet. Shame on these dishonest, greedy, and rude crooks.Speaking strictly as a computer hardware engineer, always avoid wireless whenever possible. Wireless nowadays does have the capability for high bandwidth, but will always have much higher latency and subject to interference. If you care about stable internet ALWAYS use fiber, cable, or dsl connections and avoid wifi especially for things like competitive games (use ethernet). Yes, I'm aware that gorge net does offer dsl now, but stay away from a company like this.
