One of my major clients worked with Local Hero on a film project. It was a very disappointing experience. They were difficult to communicate with and in the end, the work product was not satisfactory, making the final editing of the film more challenging. They were not helpful in trying to work out a solution.

My experience with Local Hero has made me a client for life. I interacted directly with Leandro Marini, the owner of the company. First, the creative interactions. Once Leo and I decided that Local Hero would be a good fit, he gave me a very specific list of deliverables that, though detailed, enabled my editor to hand off the project so that it could be integrated very quickly by Local Hero. The staff at the post house dealt with everything seamlessly and I was surprised at how soon Leo and I were able to sit and get down to the fun part -- coloring my film.This is really where Leo set himself apart from so many companies in the DI space. We talked at length about my vision for the movie. About the genesis of the project. About my references. About my favorite movies, both in terms of similar genres but also in terms of looks. He asked what tone I'd like for the film. He asked if I was a fan of modern crisp digital cinematography or the older style of 35mm. If I liked grain or not. If I liked deep black shadows. It was an incredibly specific yet thoughtful survey of my tastes. I wasn't quite sure how all these questions would be relevant until he finally started setting up looks for my film. At that point, it almost felt as if he understood the movie better than I did. As we made our way through the entire film, Leo amazed me by his aptitude in coloring as well as VFX work. He was able to move quickly between the two, using VFX to solve production mistakes (painting out cables, replacing backgrounds, etc.) and color to blend everything into the same tonal world. By the time we completed the final color pass, I was giddy. My film finally resembled what had been in my head from the very first moment I conceived of the story. I will never forget that real sense of joy. It comes down to this -- Leo has incredible taste as a colorist. My movie tripled in production value the moment he started working on it. He nailed the look I wanted -- and he listened to me every step of the way. It became a true collaboration. Almost every one of his suggestions came from a desire to make the STORY clearer. As a director, that's music to my ears. From the financial side, Leo was very understanding of my need to extract as much value as possible from my budget. Despite the company's work in the studio world, Local Hero was able to embrace my independent film (and it's budget) and never treated me like a side project. That was huge. I would strongly recommend this company. I personally plan on using them again and again.

It is a relief to know that after the trials and tribulations of shooting a film, there will be a solid home to finish it. For me, that place is Local Hero Post. I have produced 7 features over the past five years that have finished at Local Hero and on each, LHP went above and beyond what was expected in terms of support, creative partnership and access to resources. For my projects, Local Hero is more than a post house and can only be described as a creative extension of my filmmaking process.

I have worked with Local Hero on a variety of feature films -- all budgeted very differently and they have been absolutely fantastic. The owner and senior colorist is an absolute technological genius. He knows about every workflow, every camera, every format. I go to him constantly for answers and inspiration. They did the DI on the first film I produced and their doing the DI on my most recent project, and at least 5 or 6 in-between. The owner (Leo Marini) specializes in front-to-end workflow including dailies mgmt, dailies coloring all thru the DI. I have used this new workflow twice and it literally has been the best experience I've ever had on a production. I highly recommend them to all DPs, all Producer and all Directors. PS. They have a junior colorist who is training under Leo who is also terrific. I would super recommend him to projects under a million.

I can't get enough of Local Hero. I have had fifteen features at Local Hero to date. Narrative dramas, 3D, VFX, genre studio pics, documentaries. Super crisp digital to old school film grain. Leo is my "go-to guru" for all things digital. He looks at every film's needs and works out the best individualized dailies workflow and post plan. Local Hero goes above and beyond to make the directors and DP's happy, as well as always ensuring that the bids are amazing value for money. Local Hero comprises a team of super talented technical personnel, colorists and vfx artists. I really think they can tackle anything. I hesitated to write a review because I consider them my secret weapon, but it's time for me to speak up and let everyone know that you couldn't be in better hands when designing, shooting and finishing your picture.
