Overall Feedback:

My business hired Notion Theory to build a web-based app after interviewing approximately five other development companies. We selected them for three reasons:1. They seemed to have an understanding of the gaming industry, as they were building their own virtual reality business.2. The principals of the company, Kristian Bouw and Michael Kueng, seemed to be generally nice guys and respectable people (on the surface). 3. They seemed to care about their professional reputation (initially). The entire experience turned out to be a lie and they have been a huge disappointment. There was a large gap between the time we agreed to work with Notion Theory and the time we actually started the project, through no fault of their own. However, during that time, the project manager that we started off with (Stephen Kae) left the company, so Kristian (one of the founders) became the project manager. Frankly, that’s when the relationship started to go downhill. He is a manipulator and not a man of his word. He simply lacks integrity.Kristian was inconsistent in managing the project and immediately began to refute and push back on every single thing we discussed in initial conversations, including things we agreed on in writing. I’ve had to resend them their own emails, as reminders of what was discussed and agreed. To make a long story short, We have paid Notion Theory approximately $26,000 out of the $28000 of the contract but have zero to show after one year of starting the project. When confronted about the lack of progress and not meeting our expectations, Kristian immediately began to lie about us “constantly changing the scope of the work,” as their excuse for not delivering what they were paid to deliver. Yet, we never once changed what we requested, from day one. They never completed or tested the project at all. After realizing that they were never going to complete the project, we had their work assessed by three other development groups. Each expert referred to their work as “appalling” and “not at all in line with industry standards.” They acknowledged that Notion Theory took advantage of our non-technical background and “should be embarrassed by the quality of work they produced.” One development company suggested, “they must have had interns do the project. It looks like interns started then stopped in the middle.”What we have is a non-working, incomplete, non-tested app that cannot be used, and they have zero issue with it. All we’ve heard from them are lies about us “changing the scope of work." As experts, even if we did change the scope of the project, that shouldn’t have affected the QUALITY of their work. In a normal business relationship, even if the client does in fact expect more than what was agreed, you simply provide the cost of upgrading the project. It’s that’s simple. Their lies make no sense.I would not recommend working with them on ANY level. The good news is, we’ve kept a record of EVERY correspondence with Notion Theory, so their lies about us “changing the scope of work is “fake news.”If you decide to work with them, keep a record of every single email, call, Google Hangout, and download your Slack exchanges. Otherwise, it's their lies against your memory. The good news is, we’ve done just that. Most business owners will do whatever it takes to attempt to make their customer happy or to deliver a final product that makes them proud. With us, they’re banking on us not being in their tech circle (so they think) and their lack of integrity not having an impact on their business. They’ve basically taken a “no fuks” attitude towards dealing with us from day one, for a number of reasons. They’ve made zero attempts to complete the project, yet they’ve requested the balance. Simply put, they’re criminals in sheep's clothing. Seemingly nice guys with no moral compass. They’re thieves who are out to make a name for themselves in the tech industry. They don’t care who they step on to get where they’re trying to go.Don’t trust this company!
