Client Review on Park City Studios

Feedback:

I came here a few years ago with an interest in the film industry having worked in Theater Arts and theater production in college for several years. With a background of over a decade as a dancer, figure skater, photographer, writer, artist, and musician I was hoping to find some work in the arts sector. I was extremely disappointed and offended by the lack of cultural sensitivity in this facility. When I volunteered, the general contractor jokingly discussed graphic and explicit scenes demeaning women's bodies that were filmed there directly in front of my face. I did not speak up, but wish I had. I also witnessed a woman mopping the front entrance throughout my time there. Upon a group of rich white men putting money into the studio entering the facility, she was directed to re-mop the floor that she had just cleaned minutes earlier just to get rid of the mud tracked inside by the men's boots. I found this incredibly disrespectful. I was also told to join an art house in order to find work in Utah's film sector. The hosts of the class used vulgar and repulsive language with no sensitivity to what those words implied to a female. The f* word was used nearly a dozen times, and I sat through the entire class, offended by what that word actually means. As I was encouraged to take classes there, I enrolled in a screenwriting class, but was asked to watch R-rated films with morally offensive themes. When I asked if there were more sensitive options to my moral and religious values, I was told that those films were the best examples and that I should be familiar with them. I have watched hundreds to thousands of films over my lifetime. None of them prepared me for this. I have never felt so disrespected in my life. The industry here is not concerned about the art behind film, and is not culturally aware of film outside of a gross American standard. Had I known how I would be treated and disrespected, I would not have shown up looking for opportunities. I would not recommend this studio to anyone with morals. In my culture, this is not how we treat people, and this is not what film is about. There is a lot of learning to be done by this studio in order to be more aware of perspectives outside of their limited view of the world.
