Called to inquire on a rental we knew was coming available with a friend of my daughter’s. Was told to have her friend come in and sign papers of moving out and they would call us to get us signed up as we were working together to get it done. The tenant signed her move out papers , sent a text to my daughter who was still asleep that morning after working two jobs and working into the late night hours to make money for grad school at NSU. Jolessa did not call as promised and when my daughter got the text we called immediately. Text was sent at 0900 and we called at 10:30. Had to leave a message cause Jolessa had “stepped out”. When we called back at noon because no one had yet returned our call they proceeded to tell us since we did not respond to the text from the friend they gave it to someone else. Come to find out, they took a deposit and gave it to someone else at 0930, less than 30 minutes from the time our friend came in to sign her papers!!! Jolessa was rude and unprofessional and said she did not have to call me even though she had said she would and that she had just offered to call me in this situation to let me know when we could sign up. She NEVER called and gave the apt away in less than 30 minutes. I asked her why she did not call as promised and she said she did not have to call as it was not her job even though she admitted she said she would call us when our friend came in so we could sign up as we live 8 hours away. Evidently when my daughter did not respond immediately to her friends text, she gave it away. We called on multiple days for 6 weeks because they do not do a waiting list and it is first come first serve dogfight when one comes open. She basically argued and scolded me on the phone like I was a child. I asked for her supervisor , who had just “stepped out” but she told me her name was Ashley. Three voicemails and 10 days later Ashley still has not returned any phone calls. We called again yesterday to inquire about if anything had come open and was told no waiting list, to find a friend who was moving out and try to get one that way or to watch Facebook. We said we had already followed their recommendations about doing it thru a friend and Rhodes did not honor what they said they would do despite all the work we did coordinating with the tenant! That obviously did not care one bit even though we did this crazy system they use. This rental arm of Rhodes Properties is horrible.That is not the way to treat customers and makes me be concerned about how they treat tenants as well. My family has been in the apt rental business for 18 years so we are speaking from experience. I have never experienced a company with such bad policies, rude employees, not returning phone calls and do not care about anything evidently but the almighty dollar. They should be ashamed of how they treat customers! You should at the very least maintain a waiting list and give people to opportunity to be contacted, given a set a respectable, reasonable amount of time to respond ( not 30 minutes or immediately ) and then move on to the next person on the list if not response. There are other places in town such as The Quad ( under new ownership, formerly Frog pond) and The Cottages with set prices including utilities and Welch Estates who have much nicer people and customer services than Rhodes/Delacroix. Shame on Rhodes for how they treat people because they can. I only gave them one star because zero was not an option.
