New management at the New Mexican newspaper highlights the challenges of making print profitable in the digital age. Example? The paper charges $1 per vote for pets choosen in its annual pet calendar. Consequently, the richest pet wins. Is print dead? No. With about half of New Mexico able to access the Internet, older citizens still turn to print. Young and upcoming New Mexicans use their smartphones almost exclusively, with little need for New Mexico's oldest newspaper. 2 stars for the paper's personnel and effort.
