Man, this place is weird. Big... pretty nice facilities. Quite nice and professional editing suites. But I responded to their posting for a video editor. I have a good resume. I worked at a pretty high level for years in LA. The owner called me to set up an interview time. On the initial phone conversation, he talked my ear off (kind of manically) for over 30 minutes. Then I go to the interview. I'm on time, and waiting in the reception area. He comes out with another prospective hire, and introduces me to him. That's incredibly awkward, and unprofessional. Do a better job of scheduling interviews. Then he proceeds to give me a tour... for TWO HOURS. He shows me around every inch of the place. It's big. But most of it is unused with no plans to do anything with it. He kept telling me about all this stuff they used to do. Ok, that's not impressive. They do some very high-end work, and are right down the road from ESPN. I guess they do a little stuff for them too. Anyway, he introduces me to EVERYONE including his partner. I'm in their executive office, I meet all the other staff. So because of how long he's keeping me there, and the extent of introductions etc... I'm thinking I'm definitely hired. Eventually (and I couldn't believe this) he tells me he has to go, and leaves me in a room talking to the employee I'm supposed to replace. He had given me this spiel about how I could be on the books, and get paid weekly, or I could be an independent contractor... my choice. So of course I'm a little suspicious. Since this was already such a weird experience, I straight up asked this employee what they recommended. They said to definitely be on the books, and get paid weekly, or they'll make you wait forever to get paid. That's what I suspected. Anyway... he tells me, before he just splits, that they need to bring someone on board in less than a week. I said, great. I'm ready. No problem. So he told me they would let me know in about 3 or 4 days. A MONTH later I had heard nothing, and was annoyed. So I emailed, and was polite and professional. But I also was direct in saying that I would appreciate and expected a response. I got emailed back by this guy about an hour later with a long list of excuses about budget, and I'm over qualified, they couldn't afford me, and we'll be happy to refer you to other people, and if we have any "projects" we'll let you know... blah blah blah... typical BS. I of course knew what time it was. So I just said thanks for the update, left it at that, and moved on. Did I ever hear from them again??? NOPE. Very very flakey owner, and it was obvious they didn't really know what direction they were going in. Oh, and by the way, he kept bragging to me that he had bought yet another radio station because he just likes doing that. So he's got tons of money. He would have had ZERO problem paying me. So they are just cheap, I guess, and kind of all over the place. Very strange experience.
