Client Review on Barker Lake Lodge

Feedback:

First off, David and Brenda (and even Tom) are extremely amazing people. We came from the Fox Valley area to check out the place twice (once during Feb or March when snow was still pretty heavy and cabins were closed for the season & twice during July because the cabins were open) for our small wedding location. Brenda was very communicative and very punctual, often getting back to us within a day and answered all questions that we had for her; she made sure that dinnerware and silverware were available for the wedding (and the whole weekend) and kept us well informed of the usage of everything in the lodge. The lodge was AMAZING during recession/photos of the wedding. Even during the day when we took the photos, it's like the lodge glowed with plenty of natural light. And it was even better at night. The upstairs bedroom is surprisingly quiet despite all the karaoke and yelling we did throughout the night; when I asked my guests how they slept despite all the noises we made, they said they did not hear anything at all so I'm glad they were comfortable. All but one of the rooms did not have AC; I didn't even realize until I stepped in on the second night and it was very hot but my guests who had that room never complained so I'm assuming it must've been quite comfortable for them even without it.The cabins weren't so bad, although I did agree with a musty smell for most of them. They just need to be aired out on a daily basis but given that this summer has been very hot and humid, I did generally understand the situation. All the cabins have AC; some have stove top, some have stove top & an oven, and the smaller cabins are pretty basic and comfortable. My guests were very comfortable in there also when I asked them about it.The beach was small but very beautiful. We rented a pontoon but everything else was included. Everyone enjoyed the paddle boat and canoeing and they also loved that there's a locker full of life jackets and toys for kids to play with. The only downfall to the beach is that there are leeches. DON'T PANIC! The leeches are extremely skinny and small (about 1/2 inch in full length) and there's barely any spotted. There will be an occasional 2 or 3 so check from your knees down after getting out from being in the water for a long time.Overall, our experience there was great. The view was beautiful and the lodge & cabins were so amazing. My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better location for our dream Lodge Wedding. Because of this location, my in-laws are definitely into making this a yearly tradition of doing lodging also since most of them are not big fans of camping.
