Beautiful.

Feedback:

Two bad rentals in 2 years. This year was very bad, grass not cut, dishwasher broken, fire danger because of dryer malfunction. We couldn't even get in the door the first day, had to wait an hour for a handyman to open the door.

Feedback:

We stayed at A Sloths Retreat through Oak Island Accommodations 9 nights August 2019. What a fantastic house. Beautiful and spacious for 3BR. The seating areas around the pool were great for BBQ’ing, playing games and for those who could...swimming! We have used Oak Island Accommodations before and they are so friendly, helpful and available for anything that comes up! Great time thank you!!

Feedback:

Great people and will do what they can to help you in any way. Have been using them for years.

Feedback:

Oak Island Accomodations misrepresented the owner of “Into the Mystic.” Their business is about making money, not offering sound advice to relatively new East Coast renters. We rented “Into the Mystic” in 2017 for the first time and loved it. Great experience/great house. This year we were scheduled to check in on 9/9–knowing possible hurricane forecasts well in advance I have a call log to OIA requesting advice about rebooking. We did not purchase insurance initially largely bc they charge $300 in taxes and fees, $200+ for insurance and you can put the house back up if something occurs. Each time I called we were advised not to put the house back up due to limited house availability until Thanksgiving, hurricanes coming later in September/October, and a general “you’ll be fine” attitude. if you put the house back up in advance and someone rents it your are refunded. On 9/8 NC was in a “state of emergency.” I called OIA and they said to come on down, we’d be fine! Worst case scenario we would be evacuated on Thursday. Check-in is 3pm. Our house was not ready until 3:30 on Sunday. The first mandatory evacuation email was sent at 11:30am on Monday stating we must be out by 5. We were on the beach. My phone was in the house. I received 2 calls in the afternoon and when I returned the call at 4, I was told we had to be out by 5 and the police would come by 6. They said “don’t shoot the messenger” the evacuation is not from OIA, it’s from the county. Funny, this was not mentioned as a possibility weeks ago. We quickly packed up our 3 year old and belongings to travel home. 11 hours over 2 days to arrive, stayed for 25 hours, 15 hours to get home over 2 days thanks to 77 construction.OIA said the only person who can authorize a refund is the owner of “Into the Mystic.” Still waiting. Dear OIA: you are making money hand over foot. Do the right thing and pay the refund due to extreme circumstances and your part in the whole mess. We’re sorry for the loss and devastation in NC, but we did our due diligence to prevent this situation. Stay tuned.

If I could give less than one star I would. Our family had planned to travel to Oak Island this year after a good visit last year. We even rented the same house (Into The Mystic). As hurricane Florence approached we thought that we should cut our losses and consider staying home but after calling OIA several times we were told by the employees, “we don’t know what will happen” and “you will be good until at least Thursday when the storm hits”. One employee even said “Listen, I have lived here for 40 years and I have survived them all.” So me my wife and my 3 year old son made the 600+ mile drive to get there. We checked in on Sunday at 3:30pm (late because our house was not clean yet) and were told that we had to be out by 4:00pm Monday. 24 1/2 hours after getting there! We would have never made the trip knowing that the first people to be evacuated are the renters and tourists. We never would have made the trip and feel that OIA should at least offer to pay travel expenses. 300$ in gas, 2 nights in a hotel and 1200+ miles on our vehicle based on their employee telling us we should come because we would at least get 4 of our 7 days. Well we barely got 1 day and spent a large portion of it moving our stuff in and shopping for the week ahead. We have been told that OIA will reach out to the owner of the house regarding a refund or booking at a later date but I would rather OIA reimburse us in some manner since it was their employee that convinced us we should make the trip despite hurricane Florence. We have yet to hear anything and don’t expect to. Don’t rent from OIA!

Feedback:

We've been renting houses for 15 years from them. No more. We had a beautiful oceanfront house. After Florence I began asking about the house. Less than 48 hours ahead of time they let us know we would have to settle for an oceanview not even close to a beach access. Their attitude was take it or leave it. We took it but will the last time.

Feedback:

My family & I have previously rented from OIA for over 10 years now, every year. We will not ever rent here again. I had a reservation for the week beginning the 15th. Hurricane was coming. I tried desperately all week to get OIA to work out other possible weeks for me to switch to prior to the hurricane. Every response was”oh, we don’t know what’s going to happen. You may be able to check in” We were in fact, NOT able to check in of course. I had already put in at work for vacation. The week passed by. Now, following hurricane, a week + later. I have called for 3 straight days to ask for a refund for the $1600 vacation we weren’t able to take as of no fault of my own!! & still OIA is doing NOTHING to help me. Looks like I’ll be seeking results legally unfortunately.
