Feedback:

Have used EI Realty several times and have always been more than satisfied.

Feedback:

Used Emerald Isle Realty two years ago and had a good experience. My wife has had some health issues over the past year and a half so we haven't been able to get away for a beach vacation. We were very much looking forward to a return trip to Emerald Isle this year so I booked with E. I. Realty. The lady was very helpful in finding a property for us. We live nearly 600 miles away and drive to the beach. Once we learned that Hurricane Dorian was headed toward the Outer Banks we watched The Weather Channel endlessly, received text updates from the city of Emerald Isle and talked to friends that lived a little further inland from the coast. I paid for the travel insurance that was provided by E. I. Realty (Red Sky). After the eye passed the island news crews and other sources reported inland flooding and damage. The bridge to the island was reopened to residents only, then the general public. We made the decision that it was not safe for us to attempt the trip, as we weren't completely sure of road conditions. Also, we had heard from friends that the Food Lion grocery store had sustained some damage. Long story, but in the end, our rental payment was not refunded. I was told that we should have driven as far as we were comfortable and get a hotel room. We could then turn in our hotel receipts for refund. This is completely unacceptable. I've omitted several other details but suffice it to say that we will never utilize this realty company for property rentals or purchases in the future. I spoke to a few other friends that were in the exact same situation as us, (heading to the Outer Banks for the same week we were), and they cancelled their beach rental due to the same concerns and yet received full refunds. It's good to hear that there are some reputable realty companies out there...of which, I would not count Emerald Isle Realty.

Feedback:

We have been loyal customers for many years. This year we had to relocate due to hurricane damage. Heather from Emerald Ilse Realty went above and beyond to find us a new place. You will not find better service nor a more beautiful place with such a variety of accommodations.

Feedback:

We stayed W my parents in surf and sound. A quality trustworthy company should ensure a quality, clean and safe place. This place needs some remodeling and upgrades as well. The floor is sinking in several places. Bathroom feels like you are going to fall through. Subfloor probably needs replacing. Mold in bathroom tub and cracks in the wall of the bathroom shower wall showing, Exposed interior wall. see pix attached. . NO BOTTLE OPENER, No pan to cook biscuits and coffee maker would not work, spewing coffee grinds everywhere. Ceiling is warped and several spots of water damage. They should stop leasing this place immediately. Stay at an Airbnb and you get a much better price, better Customer Serive and and a safe place.

Feedback:

This is our 2nd year in a row staying with Emerald Isle Realty and it has been a great experience both times. We are grateful for the whole team as they have excellent customer service and make you feel like family. Any issues that do arise are handled promptly and professionally. They are clearly a well managed operation. My family looks forward to many more years staying with Emerald Isle Realty!

Feedback:

I'm updating this review: After finding cockroaches in our rental, Emerald Isle Realty refunded our payment, which we appreciate. As a result, we're increasing our rating to 3 stars. We wouldn't book with them again -- because we were disappointed that the staff did not offer to place us in one of their other rentals or help us find alternative accommodations, which cost us a day of our vacation and some stress as we searched for a place to stay. We ended up finding an amazing condo through Sun Surf Realty, whose staff was exceptional and compassionate with us. They said to us that "palmetto bugs (aka cockroaches) live OUTSIDE on the island, but not inside our rentals." And, our condo with them was clean and bug-free!Original review: 1 starYikes! Cockroaches and demeaning staff! Not what you want to see all over the floors when you walk into your week rental of your supposed-to-be-relaxing beach vacation. The manager said these are “palmetto bugs” (which is a fancy word for cockroaches) and “don’t carry diseases” (completely untrue) and said she “would not move us unless we opened a cabinet and 5,000 of them poured out.” She added that we’d probably see 5 per day everyday. Not what you want to hear. My family has been coming to Emerald Isle for 25 years and have never seen any cockroaches in any of our other rentals. My parents have been using Emerald Isle Realty for years and have always had good experiences...they must have had a change in staff, because my dad was shocked when he heard how this manager responded.

Would give zero stars if I could. BLUF: purchase the so-called travel insurance, make sure you initial/sign in the correct spot, and follow up to ensure you have it all the way up to check in, and through your stay. If you do that, and the unthinkable happens, you'll be given a website to "file your claim (unaffiliated with EI Realty of course), and maybe they kick you back a couple dollars if you're lucky. Be advised, however that it's not just insurance for "travel" as in you're insured if you can't make the trip, or if the agency cancels due to weather or whatever...it's also insurance if the owner/agency wants to evict you after you check in. Not only were we tricked into leaving the property we paid over $5k for, we were told we couldn't return after "Hurricane" Dorian rolled through, only to find out after the fact we could have kept our keys and stayed. Over $1k of food wasted. Thousands more spent to redirect flights, purchase hotel rooms, rent cars and more. No apology, no remorse, and certainly no refund. Not only will I never book with EI again, I will make it my goal in life to dissuade anyone from remotely considering them as an option. Run as fast as you can away from this hack of a business. They do not have any loyalty to you as a customer, and at the hint of bad weather will happily sell you out to ensure their owners' pockets are lined with your money...even if it means crossing ethical lines...and the worst part is, they do it with a smile.

Feedback:

My family and I made our first ever group trip to Emerald Isle Beach in June 2017. We had the most amazing time together and hoped it would be something we would continue. When the patriarch of our family died unexpectedly 6 months later, we knew we must honor him and the love and joy we shared on our family trip so we booked a second family vacation at the same home on Emerald Isle Beach for June 2019 minus one. We booked both vacations with another rental company and we had such a positive first experience we had no reason to worry. Two days before our week vacation in June 2019, I learned that the house we had rented had been sold and the new home owner would continue vacation rentals but with a new management company. That's where Emerald Isle Realty comes in. I strongly believe in business reviews. I read them, consider them, use them in my decision making and most importantly, I write them. I would have never chosen EIR based off the reviews I have found here and my story fits alongside all of the other negative reviews. I will keep this as brief and factual as possible and just share the take home points of what I learned. My first and most important lesson learned is that you have no protection in the state of NC in the event something goes wrong with your vacation rental. (I filed a formal complaint with NCREC). There is a large part of me that has felt bad for EIR as they were handed a very difficult situation that was no fault of their own. It was how they handled the situation once it fell into their hands that matters. They declined to honor my rental contract but rather followed the instruction of their new homeowner in a small but important matter to my family. Their first instinct was to mislead me rather than remain honest at all times. Someone from their staff showed up to our property 5/7 days. I had advanced notice they were coming once. I requested no further work take place during our week stay but rather wait until we had checked out. This was supposed to be noted but apparently never made it very far as work resumed within the house 2 days later. Which leads me to communication. It is poor. This is not that surprising to me as I am well aware when you perform a root cause analysis after things go wrong it will almost always lead back to communication and its breakdown. The employees of EIR will value their days off and vacation more than yours. Here are some of the responses I received when I attempted to remedy issues in my week and after: "Since I am out of the office tomorrow I am copying our customer service team on this email so we can confirm this one way or the other prior to your arrival on 6/8." "Please note that I will be out of the office until Sunday 6/23 but feel free to call my cell if you still have questions or concerns. I will not issue the refund until I return." And my favorite- "I wanted to let you know that (owner) is out of the country and I will not be able to discuss this with him until we are able to meet; which will be on or around 9/6/19. " EIR is very good at apologizing and when a company is good at apologizing it means they issue too many of them. Businesses that are truly customer focused and quality driven do not have to apologize this much. And profit is heavily valued. Our family rented "Sea Worthy" for $3000 less than what it is now renting for with EIR during the same week. The two stars are to acknowledge that I received a refund in my requested amount as well as a small voucher to use on a future rental with EIR. The second star is for the owner and her personal letter that she attached to the refund. Her words were full of truth, sincerity and human connection and I am grateful she took the time to reach out. I sure wish my concerns would have made it to her desk during my week stay. I truly believe my vacation would have benefited from her guidance, integrity and business sense had she been involved sooner.

Feedback:

Rented a house from EIR this August for our annual family beach trip. We were highly disappointed with our experience with EIR after many years renting houses from beaches in Duck and Southern Shores. The house had ants and cockroaches (with our three children under 3yo) and the management company was not responsive and even rude as we requested assistance with this. And after the treatment we still found the kids toys‘ with bugs on them for days following. We were told by the management company that we are at the beach and should expect bugs (again have been renting for years and never had this experience). EIRs staff also revealed an argument between the property owner and EIR as their explanation for the delay in responding to our issue - we don’t care about any arguments, as a customer we want our problem taken care of. The pool was not cleaned until we cleaned it ourselves and the area had not had leaves blown, likely for weeks, given the pool area’s appearance . The mid-week cleaning service that was promised did not happen.
